From the President

“Happy Birthday to You, Coosa Valley Fair!”

Excitement is rising just like children, the Fair Association, the Exchange Club of Rome and the Community of Rome are preparing for the biggest party of all—Happy Number 70!  ALL OF ROME/FLOYD COUNTY AND 18 OTHER SURROUNDING COUNTIES ARE INVITED.  OH, AND BRING 200,000 OF YOUR BEST FRIENDS ARE INVITED AS WELL.  Now, to some folks being 70 years old as too old to move or think big.  That does not apply to the Coosa Valley Fair of 2018!

YES, the community and surrounding areas, are invited to the biggest and best Birthday Party of the century.  The schedule will be no secrets!  This celebration will delight everyone.

A short history lesson proves how a success starts with dreams and wishes.  A handful of Rome and Floyd County leaders knew that the agricultural community that included 18 counties forming the Coosa Valley area, needed a venue to share together their fall harvest and successes.  These leaders knew they had a winning combination of fun and EDUCATION! They planned rides, food, and displays that for one week—people from surrounding counties would enjoy. All of this began in 1949.

Fast forward to present, in 2018, THE COOSA VALLEY FAIR DATES ARE SET FOR OCTOBER 2-6.  The Coosa Valley Fair Association are planning traditional and contemporary activities.  There are no secrets, but many surprises.  The GRAND OPENING on Tuesday, October 2, is featuring the Berry Drumline.  A presentation of the flag, an air “fly over salute.”

Already on the docket are the FLYING WALENDAS of Circus Incredible (the best flying trapezes in the world).  This family company is in the 8th generations for carnival shows.  They appeared at the Coosa Valley Fair in 1970.  Now, their return is planned to include two (2) shows per day and three (3) shows on Senior/Kids days and three (3) shows on Saturday, October 6.  Another big attraction will be the Jurassic Kingdom’s Live Dinosaurs.  Again, many shows during the week to be announced later.

There will be traditional events like the homemaking exhibits, the flower show, the art and photography, pageants, rides, food and all the animals you would like to see.  Along with those fun events there will be Spirit night, College nights, a gospel sing featuring the time-honored quartet sounds and fast forwarding to the contemporary gospel music.

As plans develop, this site will updated with dates and times.  For more up-to-the-minute general information, go to the Coosa Valley Fair Facebook page.  The success of this year’s fair is due to a wonderful group of Exchange Club members that have worked a full year for you and your family’s entertainment!
